CA certification for market approval in Kenya
A CA certification is required for market approval of products with radio technologies on the Kenyan market. The approval is granted by the local Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) and is the basis for marketing the products in Kenya.
The CA certification is a national certification scheme but based on the requirements of the Radio Equipment Directive (RED). This means that test results and certificates that have already been issued for CE marking can be accepted by the Kenyan authorities and reused for CA certification. Therefore no local testing in a local laboratory is necessary, only a local representative has to be involved in the approval process.
The CA certification is permanently valid according to the specifications of the authority and manufacturers have to plan for between six and eight weeks for an approval. After successful approval by the authority, the manufacturer is obliged to label the product. The marking of the product is done by the legible representation of the following information:
- Supplier/manufacturer’s name or identification mark;
- The equipment’s trade name, model name and serial number;
- Other markings such as compliance label for equipment as required by the relevant standards.
We at CETECOM can carry out all the necessary tests for CA certification in our laboratories and then coordinate the entire certification process with the local representative and the authority.
