ACMA Certification

Basis for approvals in Australia

Part of this task also relates to the approval of products with radio technologies for the Australian market. ACMA certification is therefore a key requirement for manufacturers to market their products in Australia. ACMA certification is a national certification regime in which the authority specifies the nationally applicable rules and regulations that are necessary for approval and that differ from other certification regimes in other countries. These include, but are not limited to, the need for local testing for certain equipment on site in Australia or the use of a local representative to conduct and complete the certification process.

CE marking and FCC certification as a basis

Although ACMA certification is considered a national certification regime, it is possible to reuse test reports and certificates that have already been prepared. For example, the specifications for a CE marking based on the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and FCC certification are considered a stable basis for ACMA certification. The test reports and certificates for EU and USA approval are recognized by ACMA and thus reduce the effort for manufacturers for a market approval for Australia.

The ACMA certification label

ACMA Certification Label

ACMA certification is permanent, so manufacturers do not face recertification of their products. ACMA certification requires the use of a certification label on the device. Here, a minimum label height of 3 mm is required. If this is not possible, it may be possible to print the label on the packaging or in the manual.

The reuse of an ACMA certification

ACMA certification also means approval for Norfolk Island, Christmas Island and Cook Islands, but not for New Zealand.
