CETECOM completes first eCall UNECE approval project in accordance with UN – R 144

This project completion once again underlines our competence in the field of eCall.
eCall

eCall is an automatic emergency call system for motor vehicles postulated by the European Union. In-vehicle systems are designed to automatically report a traffic accident to the pan-European emergency number 112, and help to reduce the number of traffic jams and reduce the severity of road traffic injuries by means of more rapidly initiated rescue operations.

Since April 1, 2018 eCall is mandatory in the European Union for all new models of passenger cars (M1) and light commercial vehicles (N1) according to Regulation (EU) 2015/758.

Since July 19, 2018 the UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) Regulation UN – R 144 came into force. This regulation is not only valid for the EU member states, but for up to 55 countries worldwide. These include, among others, Russia, Japan and Korea. CETECOM was the first technical service designated by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) for both eCall regulations.

In Japan the Regulation UN – R 144 will become mandatory from January 1, 2020 for new vehicle models, which are fitted with an automatic emergency call system.

We are delighted to announce that we just completed the eCall UNECE approval testing according to Regulation UN – R 144 Part Ib for one AECD project as well as parts of the AECS approval tests according to Regulation UN – R 144 Part II.

For the completed project, CETECOM provided testing services of the following test scope:

  • General (Data sending and voice connection)
  • EMC (UN – R 10)
  • GNSS
  • PLMN access
  • Information and warning signal (Self-test)
  • Power supply
  • Sled test
  • Audio (ITU-T P.1140)

The completion of this eCall project once again underlines our extraordinary expertise in the eCall approval process and years of technical know-how. We were designated as a technical service for eCall in August 2017 by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) and were the first laboratory in Europe to offer and carry out eCall testing and certification. Likewise, we were the first laboratory designated by the KBA as a technical service for the regulation UN – R 144.
