Update from Malaysia: SIRIM IPv6 Report Requirement for Type Approvals and Renewals

The Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) has announced an important update regarding the certification of IPv6-enabled devices in Malaysia. As part of their efforts to ensure better compatibility and network security, SIRIM now requires a comprehensive IPv6 test report for type approvals and renewals of non-Wi-Fi-enabled devices, effective July 11, 2025.
In their official announcement (SQASI/CMCS/1/25/0001), SIRIM confirmed that testing laboratories are now available for IPv6 testing on non-Wi-Fi-enabled products, such as cellular devices without Wi-Fi interfaces and devices using alternative mediums like fiber optics etc. (excluding Ethernet LAN).
Key Points to Note:
- Current interim approval for IPv6 cellular devices (non-Wi-Fi-enabled) and devices on alternative mediums will no longer be valid after July 10, 2025.
- From July 11, 2025, manufacturers will need to submit an IPv6 test report for full approval. This report will be mandatory for the approval process, and the approval will be valid for a period of five years.
- To renew interim approvals, an IPv6 test report from an approved laboratory will be required.
This change is essential for maintaining up-to-date compliance with Malaysia’s regulatory standards for network connectivity and device compatibility. Manufacturers are encouraged to prepare for these updated requirements to avoid any disruptions in product approvals.
