Sigfox Certification

For optimal sending
and receiving of messages

The life cycle of a Sigfox message is usually defined as follows:

  • A device wakes up and sends a message via its radio antenna.
  • Several Sigfox base stations in the region receive the message.
  • The base stations send the message to the Sigfox cloud.
  • The Sigfox cloud sends the message to a customer’s backend platform.

Compatibility and nominal network performance

A Sigfox certification confirms that a device complies with Sigfox certification specifications to ensure compatibility with Sigfox services and nominal network performance.

To meet the certification requirements, the device must meet two types of Sigfox test requirements:

  • RF and protocol tests to verify compliance with the Sigfox protocol and RF performance
  • Radiation tests to assess the radiation power of the device

Currently there are two different certification variants:

  • Sigfox Ready

Sigfox Ready certification is mandatory for every device to be connected to the Sigfox network – with the exception of Development Solutions.

  • Sigfox Verified

Sigfox Verified certification certifies compliance with the RF and protocol specifications of a modular design

Sigfox Ready and Sigfox Verified certifications are specific Sigfox certifications. In addition, there are country-specific testing and market approval requirements that Sigfox devices must meet. Depending on the country, the processes required to obtain market approval can vary from “self-declaration” to “classic type approval”.
