China eCall: Preparing for Compliance and Market Readiness
China is advancing its approach to emergency calling for connected vehicles with the introduction of China eCall which is a framework intended to enable automated and reliable emergency communication in the event of a serious road accident. China eCall will become be mandatory for all new models of passenger cars (M1) from 1st July 2027. The China eCall mandate will from 1st January 2028 also apply to new models of light commercial vehicles (N1). For automotive manufacturers and suppliers, this brings new technical, regulatory, and operational requirements that need to be addressed early to ensure timely implementation and type-approval readiness.
