India Implements New Telecommunication Equipment Standards under Phase VI of MTCTE

On February 25, 2025, the Telecommunication Engineering Center (TEC) of India issued an important notification outlining the standards and conformity assessment procedures for specific telecommunication equipment under Phase VI of the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecommunication Equipment (MTCTE).
The following telecommunication equipment is required to undergo mandatory testing and certification by TEC before being imported, sold, or used in India. The new standards will come into effect 180 days after the date of this notification, i.e., on August 23, 2025:
- TEC40012408 – Cellular Customer Premises Equipment
- TEC10012409 – Fixed Wireless Phones
• Fixed Wireless Phone with Voice and Data Facility
• Fixed Wireless Phone with Voice Facility-only - TEC37942410 – LAN Switches
• Storage Area Network (SAN) Switch
• Fabric Interconnect Switch - TEC34732410 – IP Security Equipment
• Network Security Management Equipment
• Network Security Analytics Equipment (Managed)
• Network Security Analytics Equipment (Unmanaged)
• Content Security Equipment
• DDoS Protection Equipment
• Malware Analysis Equipment
• Web Application Firewall - TEC57282501 – Satellite Communication Equipment
• NGSO User Terminals
• NGSO Integrated Gateway
This notification emphasizes TEC’s continued efforts to ensure the safety, quality, and reliability of telecommunications products used in India. Companies involved in the import or sale of the listed equipment must comply with these new standards to avoid potential regulatory challenges.
