New guidelines define measurement and simulation methods for demonstrating SAR compliance

The Canadian Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) has released two new procedural documents related to the assessment of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) compliance in accordance with RSS-102. Finalized on August 15, 2025, these documents are the result of a public consultation process and provide updated methodologies for both measurement- and simulation-based compliance testing.
The new publications are:
- RSS-102.SAR.MEAS – Procedure for Measuring Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) Compliance According to RSS-102 (Version 2)
- RSS-102.SAR.SIM – Procedure for Simulating Compliance Assessment of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) as per RSS-102 (Version 1)
With these updates, ISED aims to ensure consistency and clarity in demonstrating SAR compliance for radio equipment operating on the Canadian market.
