Argentina Introduces New Safety Regulations for Electrical Equipment

Revised labeling requirements and conformity assessments set to ensure greater safety for electrical products in Argentina

The Secretaría de Industria y Comercio in Argentina has recently published Resolución 16/2025, Resolución 17/2025, and Resolución 26/2025, which establish new essential quality and safety requirements for electrical equipment sold in the country. These new regulations introduce significant revisions to the labeling of cord plugs. Under these guidelines, any plug can be used with a certified adapter disclaimer that meets the standards of IRAM 2073/2071. The disclaimer must include a tag that indicates the product does not come with a standard power plug for Argentina, and that a certified grounded adapter is necessary to ensure safety.

The following previous regulations are no longer in force as of February 26, 2025:

  • Resolución 169/2018 on electrical safety
Electrical products certified under this resolution will remain valid until February 26, 2026, as long as the required surveillance is maintained.
  • Resolución 731/1987 on power cable labels for class I and II products
  • Resolución 524/1998 on minimum safety conditions for plugs and sockets

In addition, manufacturers and importers are now required to provide a Declaration of Conformity (DoC) and comply with conformity assessment processes to ensure products meet the necessary safety standards for sale in Argentina. Beginning October 1, 2025, it will be mandatory to affix conformity markings, including the Conformity Seal and a QR Code, to the product or its main packaging.

These updates reflect Argentina’s commitment to improving safety standards for electrical products and ensuring that manufacturers and importers adhere to modern requirements for consumer protection.
