South Korea: RRA Updates EMC Standards and Testing Methods (Notice No. 2025-50)

Revision of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards for broadcasting and communication equipment

On July 27, 2025, the Korean National Radio Research Agency (RRA) published Notice No. 2025-50 announcing updates to multiple EMC standards and associated testing methods under the conformity assessment framework for broadcasting and communication equipment.

The revision affects several KS standards, including updates to low-frequency immunity tests, EMC testing for industrial program controllers, protective relays, various wireless devices, and low-voltage switchgear and control devices. Some standards have been updated to newer versions (e.g., KS X 3124:2024), while in other cases earlier versions have been reinstated (e.g., KS C IEC 61131-2:2017).

The updated standards cover testing for:

  • Low-frequency immunity in public low-voltage distribution networks
  • EMC compliance of industrial controllers and protective relays
  • Wireless devices such as low-power radios, implantable medical devices, satellite communications, amateur radios, and voice/audio transmission equipment
  • Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear

Manufacturers and testing laboratories should be aware of these changes, as they may impact current and future EMC testing and certification processes in South Korea.

The new standards will come into effect one month after the publication date.
