Indonesia Issues New Technical Standards for Mobile Communication Devices

New rules starting August 2025: mandatory compliance for GSM and IMT-2000 devices

Jakarta, June 15, 2025 – Indonesia’s Directorate General of Resources and Equipment for Post and Information Technology (Komdigi) has issued Decision No. 45, detailing updated technical standards for mobile communication devices operating under the GSM and IMT-2000 frameworks, as well as associated technologies.

Effective August 18, 2025, all mobile communication devices manufactured, assembled, or imported into Indonesia for commercial use must comply with these standards. The regulation applies to a broad range of equipment, including base stations, subscriber terminals (user devices), and signal boosters.

Key Technical and Safety Requirements

  • Power Supply
GSM base station devices must support AC power at 220V ±10% and 50Hz ±2%, or use DC power, with stable performance under varying power conditions.
  • Electrical Safety
Equipment must comply with international and national safety standards, specifically IEC 60950-1, IEC 62368-1, and relevant Indonesian National Standards (SNI).
  • Certification Process
All devices must undergo formal certification. Existing test reports conducted before the enforcement date may still be valid if they align with current regulations. Otherwise, devices must be re-tested or reports revised accordingly.

The move aims to enhance the safety, reliability, and interoperability of mobile communication infrastructure in Indonesia, aligning national standards with international benchmarks.
